Welcome to Decadently Fit!  A blog that encompasses my passion for healthy food and lifestyle.  A place that I send someone who asks, “What do you do to be healthy?”

All of this (points to self) does not come naturally. Although it used to, once upon a time.  I had to work hard to get to where I am now, and have learned a lot to get here.

Until I was 18 I could eat an entire pizza and lose weight in the process.  I took that super power for granted.  I remember sitting at a stop light one day and looking down to see a stomach roll forming over my jeans.  My 18 year old self was completely devastated.  Yet, still devoured everything in sight.

When I was pregnant with my second child I finally realized how important it is to eat healthy and exercise.  Yes, everyone has a different view of the body after having a child.  It was after receiving the shocking news that amidst all of my other pregnancy complications, I had gestational diabetes.

I could no longer eat spoon fulls of peanut butter covered in chocolate chips.  I am pretty sure I threw a temper tantrum.  I love food.  Telling a pregnant woman to control her cravings, and eat super healthy was devastating.

Like a true Type A personality, I took it as a challenge.  Being that I was already on bed rest till the baby was born, I had tons of time to start a new obsession.  I wanted my glucose levels to be perfect, not only for me, but for my baby.  So I learned everything I could about how sugars affect glucose.  I learned about what I had to eat at what time.  I got really good at it and it because of my new knowledge I only gained 25 pounds during the pregnancy.  After Little C was born I continued eating healthy and exercising.  My knowledge grew daily.

Since my son and I have a 40% chance of developing Type 2 diabetes, I have to be careful what food habits I teach him.  I need to lead by example. At times I have to be the bad guy that says no to another treat.

No one should have to eat boring, bland food in an attempt to get healthy or regain health.  I was/am most certainly not going to. In my journey to reach my goals (and stay on track) I started  turning once fat laden comfort foods into healthy, nutrient rich versions.  To my surprise, even my picky meat and potato eating husband would eat my makeover meals.

I hope you enjoy my recipes and sporadic rants about living healthy.  Subscribe (top of the home page) so you can receive the latest recipes and tips right as they happen.

    • Thank you for visiting Decadently Fit!
I’m going to try to make your banana crumb muffins for an upcoming camping trip. I have an addiction to anything with crumb topping. I hope I can control myself from eating them all.

I plan on making your banana crumb muffins for an upcoming camping trip. I gravitate towards anything with a crumb topping. I’m just hoping I can control myself, and not eat all of them!

  2. You have a great story, I love the fact that you took control of your life through diet. I was recently diagnosed with PCOS, and also have a high risk of developing diabetes. It has changed everything for me in terms of what I eat. Lots of no no’s with PCOS diet: sugar, wheat, dairy to name a few. I look forward to seeing more of your recipes!
